INTRODUCTION

Kotli is the most populous district of the State of Azad Jammu and Kashmir having the number of human residents exceeding more than 0.9 millions. This population becomes more than 1 million when the catchments areas of Kotli like, Hajeera, Abbaspur, Sudhanoti and Northern Mirpur along with the adjoining areas of River Jehlum towards Kahuta Pakistans prefer to come  Kotli to seek for health facility and education.

District Kotli is located at the area very near to line of control. More than 70% population is in direct exposure to the borderline. Frequently, incidents of cross border firing and violation of cease fire by Indian army causes the injuries and thousands of deaths at these remote areas where immediate health facility is not available. Unattended cases go into the mouth of death. As on the front side of LOC establishment of large hospitals and trafficking is not possible.

So it is a dire need to equip the youth and students of these border areas with the basic skills of health care protocols and medications so that first aid and emergency care treatment could be available before seeking for the high level treatment in tertiary care hospitals which are far away from these areas. Not only in the cases of cross border shelling, naturally these areas are remote lacking the basic health care facility. So if the students with the professional degree programs are professionally groomed and made skillful then these issues may be managed in better way.

Similarly graduates with these programs will be skillful and independent in earning and also providing job opportunities to others. This will enhance the standard of society in terms of economic empowerment and socioeconomic well- being and job security.

COVID-19 pandemic has evolved new opportunities and challenges globally to strengthen the health management system. Quick medical assistance and provision requires the availability of trained staff in the basic health care centers.

According to WHO pandemics of other diseases likely to spread in future which necessitates that each country should develop appropriate policies for basic health care units to facilitate the early and timely provision of required therapy to the patients. In order to tackle the emergency situations and such pandemics there is need to establish and strengthen the system in health care setting. Pre-pandemic preparation will help to control it more conveniently. Overall in our country there is shortage of staff in health care centers specifically in AJK. Graduates of these programs will be a valuable addition in health care team.

  • BS Medical Technology:

BS medical technology is a four years bachelor’s degree programs with exciting, challenging and dynamic careers in various positions of health care system such as hospital and clinics. We will produce well trained graduates in medical technologists to meet hospitals and community need with skills and professional accuracy. To apply procedures for basic and advanced life support including administration of drugs and fluids orally and parentally following strict protocols for life saving of patients in life threatening situations.

Objectives/Outcomes:

  1. The objectives of program are to produce highly skilled and professional medical technologists to;

  2. Provide well trained medical technologists to meet hospitals and community need with skills and professional knowledge.
  3. Learn and apply the new techniques in the field of medical technology with safe and effective Emergency Medical Technologist role.
  4. Apply basic scientific principles related to anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology for safe management of medical and surgical emergencies at pre hospital care level.
  5. Apply procedures for basic and advanced life support.
  6. Administer drugs and fluids orally and parentally following strict protocols for life saving of patients in life threatening situations.
  7. Apply effectively and safely procedures for hemorrhage control and fracture and Spinal Immobilization/ Management.
  8. Transport patients to hospital safely and quickly.
  9. Use mobile equipment for monitoring of patient's vital signs and electrocardiography during transportation,
  10. Carry out critical care procedures during transportation out under the step-by-step direction of medical personnel by radio contact.
  11. Apply knowledge of interpersonal communication when working with patients, patient attendants, colleagues and other members of the healthcare team.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Minimum 50% marks in intermediate (HSSC) Pre-Medical group or equivalent qualification verified by IBCC.

 

  • BS Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

BS Clinical Laboratory Sciences is a Four years bachelor’s program which offers many opportunities to the graduates to become the member of any healthcare facility as a laboratory technologist. We will produce well trained graduates in laboratory sciences to be the member of any diagnostic laboratory i.e biochemistry lab, microbiology lab, veterinary lab, industrial lab, molecular biology lab, labs in academia etc with skills to perform manual and automated laboratory procedures with accuracy and professional approach.

Objectives/Outcomes

The objectives to launch this program is to produce graduates with modern skills and knowledge to;

  1. Function safely, effectively and efficiently and exhibit ethical behavior in Medical laboratory Technologist role.
  2. Perform competently the tests routinely performed in clinical laboratories.
  3. Collect, label, identify, and log in specimens accurately,
  4. Master a working knowledge of the principles of the tests they are performing,
  5. Keep accurate and legible records and communicate reports clearly to fellow medical personnel,
  6. Correlate test results in order to confirm them.
  7. Maintain accuracy in the performance of tests and eliminate error through recognizing irregularities and making corrections
  8. Adapt well to various work situations,
  9. Cooperate with their coworkers and all members of the medical team. Maintain the confidentiality of patient results
  10. Participate in professional organizations in their specialty,
