Introduction

In order to address enlarging demand of the people of the State of Azad Jammu & Kashmir department of Commerce was established in October 1996. The elementary purpose of this department was to equip the nationals of the State with the insight of discipline of commerce. The degree programs offered aim at enhancing and nurturing understanding of the graduates in the fields of finance and accounting. Our graduates are successfully utilizing their flair in various sectors of economy as well as managing their own business. Following are the programs offered under this department:

Master of Commerce (M.Com)

There has always been a need for persons with good command of finance and accounting. So the program of M.Com was started in 1996 in order to equip the students with sufficient knowledge of these fields mostly succeed in getting very attractive jobs in different departments in public and private sectors. Though finance and accounting are their major fields they find a good place in many other walks of professional life like industry, trade and corporate bodies. They can scratch an attractive career in financial institutions too. Corporate bodies, stock exchange and NGOs also have an ample place for them; and due to their subject combination at the graduate and the postgraduate level, they find their way very clear in multiple directions.

Career / Job Opportunities

Commerce graduates may go for higher education to pursue the prestigious career in the field of finance and accounting after successful completion of Chartered of Accountancy (CA), Certified Financial Analyst (CFA), Cost and Works Accountants (CWA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Company Secretary Ship (CS). In general, world is open for commerce graduates especially banking (local/national/foreign banks), investments (equity research analyst, investment banker, mutual fund executive, capital market manager, asset manager, venture capitalist and real estate), insurance (public and private insurance companies in life and non-life insurance), capital markets (stock exchanges and OTCs), management, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), accounting, taxation and audit departments, private and public organization have great attraction and opportunities for them.

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements for M.Com are as under:

  • BBA/B.Com or equivalent from any HEC recognized University with at least 2nd division with 45% aggregate in annual system or GPA 2.5 in semester system.
  • Entry test is mandatory for admission in M.Com.
  • Overall merit comprises of Academic Record and Entry Test result.
  • Age should not be more than 27 year on last date of reception of applications.

Introduction

In order to provide sound background in the field of BS Commerce (4- year) program was started in 2010. This program is highly accepted in the market. This program will provide the strongest foundation of specialized knowledge to meet the acute need of skilled commerce graduates in the market.

Post Graduate Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting (2 Semester)

Introduction

This diploma course is being offered in order to provide a sound base to the students of Commerce, Business and to general business community who intend to increase their knowledge in the field of accounting. The ever growing business activities in the world especially in South Asian region demand a specialized base in accounting and management. In order to cope with the increasing need of economic activities in business field, one should have grip on recording, analyzing and decision making capabilities. Keeping in view the demand of this Post Graduate Diploma for the youngsters of the State of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, it is being offered now.

Eligibility

The graduates having at least second division are eligible; however, preference will be given to Commerce & Business graduates.

Scheme of Studies

This program will consist upon 1 year (2 semesters) duration. In each semester four courses will be offered.
